Water Filtration Products

DanaPure Ultrafiltration by Aquacore

DanaPure Ultrafiltration by Aquacore

Model DUF440
DanaPure Ultrafiltration System with meter/controller

Product Specifications

  1. High purity at high flow rates – removes turbidity, cysts, bacteria and most viruses
  2. Consistent pore structure provides perfect barrier to microorganisms, down to 0.02 microns
  3. Produces a consistent high quality water independent of changes in feed water quality
  4. Self maintaining system – easy to programme meter/controller determines when to flush the module and how much water to use in the process
  5. Small footprint mounts on the wall and does not take up any floor space
  6. Meets all the plumbing codes
  7. Leaves in beneficial minerals. Does not reduce TDS so there is no corrosion of piping or leaching issues.

The DC10 UF uses a technology called Ultra-Filtration that will filter down to 0.02 microns.  The fibres are made from a material called PES, PolyEtherSulfone.  Each one of these fibres is slightly smaller in diameter than a straw.

Inside the “straw” are seven openings or bores that run the length of the fibre.  On each end of the UF cartridge approximately two inches of the fibres are potted into a PVC pipe.  When the glue cures a diamond blade saw cuts the cartridge to a finished length and exposes the ends of the fibres that were once blocked by the epoxy.

Water enters the UF at the bottom of the cartridge and is forced up the bores of the hollow fibre “straws”. The filtering process takes place on the inside surface of the fibres, i.e. this is “inside-out” filtration.

Once outside the fibre the water flows to the permeate port located on the side of the pressure vessel then through the meter controller and on to the intended use.

The flush process is very critical in maintaining the longevity of the UF.  The construction on each end of the cartridge is identical i.e. fibres are potted into the PVC pipe.  The hollow-fibre bore of each fibre runs from one end of the cartridge to the other.  Try to envision a bundle of straws glued or potted in place and if you blew air into the straw it would come out the other end.

At the opposite end of the UF cartridge a solenoid valve is attached which opens and closes.  When it is open for the flush, water rushes up the bores stripping off particulate matter, bacteria and cysts.  When the valve closes, water has no place to go and water pressure pushes the water through the pores of the fibre (from the inside) to the outside.

Installation & Operation

Prefiltration:  we recommend a sediment prefilter (min. 50 microns) to protect the membrane, with a minimum annual cartridge change. This same prefilter housing can be used to perform an annual sanitization of the unit.

Pressure Tank:  we recommend a small pressure tank, after the UF unit.
When the UF is in a static state, the pressure on both sides of the membranes the same.  When a faucet is opened on the downstream side of the filter, the pressure decreases on the outlet side of the filter and water is pushed through the fibres.  When the solenoid valve opens to flush, the pressure inside the fibres drops.  The tank, with several gallons of water on the downstream side, will have a higher pressure than the inside of the fibres and will push the water backwards through the fibres.  During this “backflow push”, the water will help dislodge any trapped turbidity in the fibres and at the same time will flush those particles to drain.
